Apple Business Connect is Apple’s free tool for managing how your business appears in Apple Maps, Siri, Spotlight search, Safari, Wallet and Messages. It is Apple’s equivalent of Google Business Profile, and for any business whose customers carry an iPhone it is the second most important listing you own. Roughly half of Canadian smartphone users are on iPhone, and Apple Maps is the default when they ask Siri for directions, tap an address in a text, or search in Safari’s address bar. If you have never claimed your Apple Business Connect place card, Apple is showing those customers whatever it scraped from third-party data, and it is often wrong.
This guide covers what Apple Business Connect is, how to claim and verify your listing, what to fill in, and how it fits alongside your Google Business Profile in a local SEO programme.

What Apple Business Connect Is
Apple launched Business Connect in January 2023 to replace the old Apple Maps Connect. It gives business owners direct control of their place card: the panel that appears when someone finds you in Apple Maps or asks Siri about you. The place card carries your name, address, phone, hours, category, photos, a short description, and “Showcases”, which are Apple’s version of Google Posts for offers and announcements. Since 2024 it also supports a brand logo that appears in Mail, Wallet transactions, Messages and Maps, so a claimed profile improves how your business looks across Apple’s whole ecosystem, not only in Maps.
Data you enter in Business Connect also feeds the apps that license Apple Maps, including DuckDuckGo, Bing in some contexts, and many in-car systems. One accurate record propagates further than it looks.
Why It Matters for Local SEO
Local SEO is about being present and accurate wherever a nearby customer might look. Google still takes most searches, but Apple owns the moment on the device: the Maps app, Siri, the Spotlight search that shows businesses before the user reaches a browser, and every address tapped inside iMessage. An unclaimed or wrong Apple listing means missed directions requests and calls that never show in any report, because the customer never reached your website or your Google profile.
It also matters for consistency. Search engines cross-check your name, address and phone across the primary platforms, and Apple is one of the three that count. If Apple shows an old address, that inconsistency weakens the trust signals your citations are supposed to build.
How to Claim Your Business on Apple Business Connect
1. Sign in with an Apple ID
Go to businessconnect.apple.com and sign in. Use a company Apple ID rather than a personal one so access does not walk out the door with an employee. If you have several locations, one Apple ID can manage all of them, and you can add other people as users later.
2. Find or add your place
Search your business name and address. If Apple already has a place card, claim it rather than creating a duplicate. If nothing appears, choose Add a new place and enter the details exactly as they appear on your Google Business Profile and your website.
3. Verify ownership
Apple verifies by phone call to the number on the listing in most cases, or by asking for documentation that ties you to the business at that address (a utility bill, business licence or lease). Documentation review takes a few business days. Make sure the phone number on the listing is one you can answer live.
4. Complete the place card
Once verified, fill in every field. The ones that affect visibility most are category, hours, description and photos, covered below.
What to Fill In
Name, address and phone
Use your real business name with no keywords added, the same address format as your Google Business Profile including the suite number, and a local phone number where possible. Consistency across Apple, Google and Bing is the point of the exercise.
Category
Apple’s category list is narrower than Google’s. Choose the primary category that describes what you sell most, and add secondary categories only where they are genuinely true. Apple uses category heavily to decide which places to show for a query in Maps, so a vague category costs you visibility.
Hours
Enter regular hours and set holiday hours ahead of time. Apple shows “Closed” prominently, and a wrong closed status on a day you are open costs walk-in traffic you never see.
Description and attributes
Write a short description of what you do and who you serve, in plain language, with your city or service area named. Add the attributes that apply: accessibility, payment types, appointments, parking, whether you offer delivery or takeout.
Photos and logo
Upload a square logo (Apple uses it in Wallet and Mail once approved), a cover photo, and real photos of the storefront, interior, team and work. Apple favours listings with current photos, and users decide in seconds based on them.
Showcases
Showcases are time-limited promotions or announcements that appear on your place card. Use them the way you would Google Posts: seasonal offers, new services, events. They expire, so put them on the same calendar as your social content.
Action links
Add booking, ordering, menu and reservation links where Apple supports your category. These turn a Maps view into a transaction without the customer visiting your website.
Apple Business Connect vs Google Business Profile
The two are complementary, not competing. Google Business Profile drives the map pack in Google Search and Google Maps, carries reviews, and is where most local SEO effort goes. Apple Business Connect controls Apple Maps and the on-device surfaces, does not host its own reviews (Apple pulls ratings from Yelp and other partners), and has no equivalent of Google’s Q&A. Apple also has no public performance dashboard as detailed as Google’s, though Business Connect does report views and actions on the place card.
Practically: set up Google first, because it has the most surfaces and the review engine; set up Apple second, because it is quick and closes a gap Google cannot; then keep both in sync whenever anything changes. Our guide on Bing Places for Business covers the third primary platform.
Common Problems
Duplicate place cards. Apple often holds two records for one business from different data providers. Claim the correct one and report the duplicate from inside Business Connect. Leaving both live splits your presence and confuses Siri.
Wrong pin location. Drag the pin to your entrance during setup. Apple Maps directions end at the pin, so a pin on the wrong side of a plaza sends customers to the wrong door.
Verification stalls. Usually the phone number is a call centre or an auto-attendant that cannot receive the verification call. Switch the listing to a line a person answers, verify, then change it back if needed.
Service-area businesses. Apple expects a physical location. If you work from home and serve customers at their premises, you can still list, but be consistent with how your Google profile handles the address.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Apple Business Connect free?
Yes. Claiming, verifying and managing your place card costs nothing, and there is no paid tier for better placement.
Does Apple Business Connect affect Google rankings?
Not directly. Google does not read Apple’s database. It affects local SEO in two ways: it captures iPhone users Google never sees, and it keeps one of the three primary citations consistent with the others.
How long does verification take?
Phone verification is immediate. Document verification typically takes a few business days, longer if the documents do not match the listing exactly.
Can I manage multiple locations?
Yes. One Business Connect account can hold many locations, and you can add users with different permission levels. Multi-location businesses can also upload locations in bulk.
Do I need Apple Business Connect if I already have Google Business Profile?
Yes, if any of your customers use iPhones. Google Business Profile does not control what Apple Maps, Siri or Spotlight show about you.
Where This Fits
Claiming Apple Business Connect is a one-afternoon job that most competitors have not done. It belongs in the first month of any local SEO programme alongside the Google profile, Bing Places and the core citations. If you would rather have all three set up, verified and kept in sync for you, that is part of our local SEO services.
