Google Reviews for Business: How to Get More and Keep Them Coming

To get more Google reviews for your business, give customers a direct review link, invite honest feedback after a real experience and make the request part of your normal follow-up. Keep it voluntary. Don’t offer a reward, filter out unhappy customers or tell people what to write.

Reviews help potential customers evaluate the business and contribute to its local presence. They sit alongside profile accuracy, website content and citations in our local SEO services. A useful review process supports customer feedback as well as search visibility.

What reviews can do for local visibility

Google’s local ranking guidance says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. It also recommends helpful responses. That does not establish a specific ranking weight for review recency, keywords in a review or the number of owner replies.

Recent feedback helps a reader understand current customer experiences. Track it for that reason and to spot problems in your follow-up process. A steady request process is a practical operating habit, not a promise that a particular review frequency will move you into the map pack.

Get your Google review link and QR code

Google’s current review link instructions use this route on a computer:

  1. Open the business’s Google Business Profile.
  2. Select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews.
  3. Copy the review link. To save the QR code, right-click it and choose Save image as….
  4. Open the link and scan the code to confirm that they lead to the correct business.

Place the link in a relevant thank-you message or receipt. A clearly labelled QR code can be displayed for customers who choose to use it. Google currently limits generation of its review QR code to a computer browser. People need to sign into a Google Account to leave a review.

A Google review code and a Facebook Page QR code have different destinations. Label each clearly so customers know what will open.

Invite feedback at a consistent point in the customer journey

Choose a sensible point after the customer has experienced the service, such as a project handover or a follow-up message. Apply the same neutral process regardless of whether you expect praise or criticism. Give people time to respond on their own device and don’t pressure them to post while on the premises.

Illustrative request: “Thank you for choosing our team. If you’d like to share your experience, you can leave an honest Google review here: [review link]. Your feedback helps us understand how we’re doing.” Replace the placeholder with your tested business review link.

Keep the request brief. Don’t provide a script for the review, ask for specific service keywords or require a staff member’s name. Avoid repeated reminders after someone declines.

Follow Google’s review policies

Google’s prohibited content policy forbids incentives, selective requests for positive reviews and attempts to influence review content. Don’t buy reviews, use staff or related parties to manufacture feedback, or ask for changes to a negative review in exchange for something of value.

Train the team to invite feedback without a required rating, prescribed wording or staff review quotas. A private satisfaction survey should not decide which customers are allowed to see the public review link. Keep any service recovery separate from requests to alter a review.

Respond usefully and protect private information

Read the feedback and write a relevant response when it can add value. Keep replies professional and concise. Address concerns without publishing private customer information, and offer a private contact route when the issue needs a longer conversation.

Use our Google review response guide for examples. If a review violates Google’s policies, follow the review removal guide; disagreement alone is not a reason for removal.

Monitor the process without turning it into a quota

Review incoming feedback, rating trends and unresolved concerns regularly. Record whether the request link still works and whether the team is following the agreed process. For several locations, compare the customer feedback and operating process at each location instead of pressuring staff to produce a set number of public reviews.

Use those findings in your review management reporting. The useful outcome is reliable feedback and a business that responds to it.

Google review questions

How do I get a Google review link for my business?

On a computer, open your Business Profile, select Read Reviews, then Get more reviews. Copy the link or save the QR code. Check the destination before sharing it with customers.

Can I offer a discount for a Google review?

No. Google prohibits incentives for posting, changing or removing reviews. Ask for honest feedback without rewards, pressure or attempts to influence the rating.

How many Google reviews does a business need?

There is no universal number that guarantees a ranking. Monitor your own feedback and compare relevant local competitors for context, while keeping every request voluntary and open to honest feedback.

Do Google reviews help local SEO?

Google says more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. Reviews also help customers evaluate a business. Google’s guidance does not establish a guaranteed ranking gain from a particular request cadence or response count.
