Twitter Introduces Hidden Replies for Canadian Users

Social media and reverse engineering expert Jane Manchun Wong tweeted, “Twitter is testing a new feature that will allow users to hide replies to their tweets.”
The aim of this new ‘Hide Tweet’ option is to give users more control of their Twitter experience. For now, this feature is only being rolled out in Canada.
So, how does it work? When you opt to hide a reply, that reply won’t show up in the conversation. However, you’ll still be able to view hidden replies by clicking on the hidden reply icon, and you can always unhide replies using that same icon.
The new ‘Hide Tweet’ option will be added to the tweet drop-down list. When you use this feature, the reply you choose to hide will be hidden on your timeline and from anyone else who is looking at your tweet. These replies won’t be private, however—all users will still have the option to ‘View Hidden Tweets’ on any tweet to see what the poster has decided to hide.
It appears that this move is in response to Twitter’s problem with toxic comments and harassment. It also seems that Twitter hopes hiding replies will make tweet streams more engaging as users will be able to get rid of junk comments.
For now, Twitter is introducing this feature in Canada only to see how it plays out. Hopefully, it will help remove spammers and reduce harassment on the platform.
